On 05-24-2022 at approximately 10:01 PM, UPD Officers were dispatched to the area of 200 Ford Street for multiple reports of gunshots in the area. Some callers provided descriptions of two vehicles that may have been associated with the shooting. As Officers responded they observed a vehicle in the area of N. Orchard Avenue that matched the description of one of the vehicles. The two occupants of this vehicle were detained without incident.

An initial investigation confirmed that a pick-up truck passed by the area of the 200 block of Ford Street and the occupants had a brief interaction with a pedestrian. The truck drove eastbound, turned around and then drove back toward the pedestrian. As the truck turned onto Joseph Street, multiple gunshots originated from the truck. These gunshots struck several vehicles and buildings in the area, but no one was injured. It appears a specific person was the target and this was not a random shooting.

UPD Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Evidence was gathered at the scene, witnesses were interviewed and surveillance footage was reviewed. The two occupants of the vehicle that had been initially detained were eventually released.

Updated Information:

The investigation into this incident continued throughout the day. Through this investigation the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle, and the shooter were identified. The shooter was identified as Bryan M. Sanchez, who was currently on Felony Probation for a prior violation of 459 PC (Burglary). The driver was identified as a 17-year-old male from Ukiah and the vehicle was connected to him. UPD worked with other local agencies in an attempt to locate the suspects and the vehicle. The investigation also revealed there were numerous prior unreported incidents of harassing behavior between the driver and the adult female victim. It is still not clear what prompted the escalation and the ensuing shooting incident.

On 05-25-2022, at approximately 4 PM, UPD Detectives located Sanchez in the area of 1155 Airport Park Boulevard. He was detained without incident and placed under arrest for the above noted violations. He was transported and booked at the MCSO Jail and is being held without bail at this time.

On 05-25-2022, at approximately 5:30 PM, the male juvenile suspect turned himself in at UPD. He was subsequently transported and booked at the Mendocino County Juvenile Hall for the above noted violations.

This investigation is ongoing. The vehicle driven at the time of the shooting, as well as the firearm used, are still outstanding. Anyone with information regarding the incident and / or the location of the vehicle are urged to contact UPD Detectives via the non-emergency telephone number (707-463-6262).
