On 09/10/2021, at about 1507 hours, Ukiah PD Officers responded to a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of S. Dora St. Several casings and bullet fragments were located at the scene. Witness’ statements and citizens provided video surveillance revealed a white male adult shot at an occupied vehicle. Both vehicles fled the scene and were initially unable to be located. Given the proximity to Yokayo Elementary school, the school initiated their lockdown procedures. Ukiah PD checked the area and the lockdown was lifted shortly after.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Ukiah PD in the investigation and ultimately located the vehicle used by the shooter. The vehicle was unoccupied and was stored by Ukiah PD for further investigation. The vehicle was a blue BMW with several stickers on the rear bumper. Ukiah PD detectives responded and the vehicle was searched pursuant to a search warrant. The search revealed methamphetamine in the vehicle. Forensic evidence was also obtained for the investigation.

The shooter reportedly left the scene in the above blue BMW and the driver was black male adult in his 30’s. He was described as being over 6 feet tall, having an athletic build, with shoulder length dread locks that had bleached tips. The shooter / passenger was described as a white male adult in his 20’s with a thin build, having light brown or blonde hair.

The shooter reportedly fired at a red or orange hatchback sedan, similar to a PT cruiser. Given the evidence on scene, the vehicle is likely to have damage consistent with being struck by the bullets. The victims have not come forward and no injuries were reported.
