Led by a seasoned Detective Sergeant, this elite unit is composed of highly trained and experienced officers who specialize in uncovering the truth behind Ukiah’s most critical criminal cases.
Detectives take on a wide range of challenging investigations, from homicides and violent assaults to gang activity, property crimes, sexual assaults, and cases of child abuse. They are experts in developing leads, conducting surveillance, recovering stolen property, and preparing detailed search and arrest warrants. Their work often extends beyond the scene of the crime, tracking sex offenders, arson suspects, and narcotics violators residing within Ukiah.
Behind the scenes, detectives meticulously prepare case files and evidence for prosecution, working closely with the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office and regularly providing courtroom testimony. The Detective Bureau also collaborates with a network of partner agencies, including the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Investigators, and the Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force, ensuring a coordinated approach to fighting crime across the region.
In 2024 alone, the bureau handled nearly 100 cases — a testament to their relentless commitment to justice, public safety, and the people of Ukiah.
