On 04/08/2023 at approximately 1:14 AM, a UPD officer was patrolling the 1000 block of W. Perkins
Street when the officer observed a white Honda Accord, traveling in front of the officer. Records check on the
vehicle indicated the vehicle’s registration was expired as of two years ago. The officer noticed the vehicle
displayed a registration tab for this year (2023), leading the officer to believe the registration tab was
fraudulent. The officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle and the vehicle accelerated. The
vehicle appeared to be trying to evade the officer and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.

The driver of the Honda traveled eastbound across town at speeds as high as 70 mph with a disregard
for traffic control devices and the public. The vehicle was travelling northbound on N. Orchard Avenue at its
intersection with Brush Street when the vehicle collided with a cement curb. The vehicle remained in contact
with the curb for approximately 100 yards and led to extensive damage to the vehicle. A high-risk traffic
enforcement stop was conducted due to the nature of the crime, and the driver of the vehicle was detained. The
driver was identified as Marissa Diaz. Diaz displayed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication. A
records check was conducted for Diaz, and it was determined her driver’s license was suspended/revoked, she
was on probation, and she had a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest for a violation of her probation.

Diaz was placed under arrest for the following: Recklessly evading police officers, displaying false
registration tabs, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended/revoked driver’s license, operating a motor
vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, violation of probation and for her warrant. Diaz was transported to
the MCSO Jail after a brief medical clearance at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley.
