On 1/17/23, at approximately 8:30 am, Ukiah PD received an alert from the FLOCK license plate reading camera system of a stolen vehicle in the area of E. Perkins St. The vehicle was reported stolen from Willits, Ca. the day prior.

Detectives driving an unmarked police vehicle located the stolen vehicle parked at the end of El Rio Ct. in Ukiah. The vehicle was occupied by two people. The vehicle began to move as marked patrol units responded to the scene. An unmarked Detective unit followed until marked units were able to get behind the vehicle as it traveled westbound on E. Perkins St. A felony traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of Hospital Dr. and E. Perkins St. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the curb and UPD units blocked off the intersection with their patrol cars.

The female driver and the male passenger were both ordered out of the vehicle and both fully cooperated. Both were searched for weapons and the male was found to be in possession of a concealed dirk or dagger on his hip. Both individuals were secured in the back of separate patrol vehicles.

After speaking to both parties, it was determined the female driver did not have any knowledge of the vehicle being stolen and was simply getting a ride to her destination. The male passenger, later identified as Cody Walker Caldwell, was determined to be in possession of the vehicle prior to picking up the female at her home in Ukiah. Caldwell was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a concealed dirk or dagger. The female driver was released at the scene without incident. Caldwell was booked at Mendocino County Jail.
