On 01-09-22, at around 1:17 AM, a UPD Officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop of a Honda sedan in the 400 block of E. Gobbi St. During their contact with the driver of the Honda, Kody Idica, the Officer observed him displaying symptoms of alcohol intoxication and began a DUI investigation.

While this Officer was conducting their investigation, additional Officers on scene had the remaining two occupants, Dominic Idica and Monica Diaz, exit the vehicle and sit on the sidewalk for Officer safety reasons. Kody Idica was determined to have been operating the vehicle while intoxicated and was placed under arrest for DUI.

An Officer on scene began an inventory search of the vehicle in preparation for having it towed. This Officer observed a semi-auto Glock 9mm handgun in a bag on the floorboard of the vehicle. Further examination of the handgun revealed it was an un-registered, un-serialized firearm (commonly referred to as a ghost gun). The handgun was loaded with 9 live rounds of ammunition.  All three subjects were placed under arrest for the above listed violations and booked at the Mendocino County Jail.
