On 10/23/22 at approximately 1939 hours, UPD officers were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery that had occurred in the 600 block of Talmage Rd. UPD Dispatch was notified three male suspects and one female suspect were last seen leaving the area in a red or maroon colored vehicle southbound on Highway 101. The victim of the incident was a 42-year-old male resident of Ukiah.

UPD officers contacted the victim who stated he was driving his vehicle eastbound on Talmage Rd. when he observed the suspect vehicle attempt to enter the lane he was driving in. The victim sped up to avoid a collision with the suspect vehicle.

The victim continued to drive to a residence in the 600 block of Talmage Rd. When the victim arrived at the residence he heard somebody yelling at him. The victim exited his vehicle and observed the suspect vehicle had followed him to his location. A female suspect exited the suspect vehicle and began yelling at the victim that he had crashed into her car. The victim was confused because he was sure his vehicle had not collided with the suspect vehicle. The victim walked towards the suspect vehicle to confirm whether it was damaged or not.

As the victim approached the suspect vehicle, he was approached by three male subjects wearing full face masks. One of the male subjects brandished a shotgun at the victim. One of the male subjects not holding the shotgun demanded the victim give them everything he had in his pockets, but the victim refused to do so. One of the male subjects not holding the shotgun walked to the victim’s vehicle and stole the victims cell phone from inside his vehicle. All four suspects ran back to their vehicle and drove away.

The victim returned to his vehicle and followed the suspect vehicle for a short distance until he lost sight of it.

UPD officers immediately issued a BOLO to surrounding law enforcement agencies for the suspect vehicle. A short time later UPD officers were notified officers of the California Highway Patrol had stopped a vehicle that was traveling southbound on Highway 101 that matched the suspect vehicle. UPD officers responded to CHP’s location. A search was conducted of the suspect vehicle and a shotgun and cell phone were located inside. The victim provided UPD officers with the passcode for his cellphone and it unlocked the phone located in the suspect vehicle, confirming the phone belonged to the victim.

One female and three male subjects were located in the suspect vehicle. The female suspect was identified as a juvenile that resided in Clearlake, CA. One of the male suspects was identified as a juvenile that resided in Santa Rosa, CA. The other two male suspects were identified as Marcello Torres (age 20) that resided in Antioch, CA. and Mauricio Torres (age 19) that resided in Antioch, CA.

The suspects were interviewed and ultimately the adult suspects were booked at the Mendocino County Jail and the juvenile suspects were booked at the Mendocino County Juvenile Hall.

The UPD would like to thank the California Highway Patrol with their assistance during this investigation.
