On 7/29/2020 at approx. 2319 hours, UPD Officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle burglary which had just been interrupted by the homeowner in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue. The reporting party/victim advised that they had observed two male juveniles inside of her vehicle taking items. The juveniles fled the area when confronted by the victim and fled S/B on Helen Avenue.

UPD Officers arrived in the area and contacted a 12 year old juvenile male who matched the reporting party’s description on the Nokomis Elementary school grounds. In the area where the juvenile was contacted were numerous items which were consistent with items that would be located in a vehicle. The juvenile was detained and after being positively identified by the victim as one of the responsible parties was placed under arrest. The second male juvenile was not located at this time.

During the course of the investigation, three more vehicles were located in the surrounding area that had also been broken into. Property from the vehicles was returned to the owners that were able to identify it as theirs.

The male juvenile was processed at the Ukiah Police Department for violations of 484(a) PC (Theft), 10852(a) PC (Vehicle tampering) and 647(h) PC (Prowling). After being processed at the UPD the juvenile was released to his guardian.

On 7/30/2020 at approx. 0405 hours, UPD Officers were dispatched to assist the MCSO in the 100 block of Laws Avenue. The MCSO advised they had possibly located the second male juvenile while he was in the process of breaking into vehicles in their jurisdiction. UPD Officers contacted a 14 year old male juvenile who was determined to be the other juvenile involved in the earlier vehicle thefts. Due to the fact that second juvenile had additional open charges from his involvement in the MCSO case, he was released on a citation for the UPD case and later booked at Mendocino County Juvenile Hall by the MCSO.
