Statistics

Arrests included: 9 for public intoxication, 7 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 6 for shoplifting, 5 warrant arrests, 3 for violating probation or parole, 2 for battery, 2 for possessing methamphetamine, and 1 each for: domestic violence, possessing methamphetamine for sale, possessing marijuana on school grounds, battery on a peace officer, and trespassing. Probation or parole holds were placed on 3 of these arrests.

Officers investigated 1 traffic collision and 1 hit and run traffic collision. One vehicle was impounded for 30 days due to the driver being unlicensed or suspended.

Officers took reports of: 4 vandalisms, 3 thefts, 2 found property, and 1 each of; domestic violence, stolen vehicle recovery, elder abuse, sexual assault, child neglect, battery on school grounds, abandoned vehicle, robbery, forgery, assault with a deadly weapon, and animal bite.

Officers assisted the Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force with several narcotics investigations, the Fort Bragg Police Department with a domestic violence investigation, and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office with an arson call, and a vehicle pursuit and subsequent search for the armed wanted subject.

Highlights for the Week

On February 20

that about 11:25 AM Ukiah Police received a report of a credit card theft, with the card being used at locations in and near the City of Ukiah. The victim reported having left her purse in the presence of 42 year old David Milton Peterson, of Hayward, the day prior. The victim received notification of potential fraudulent use of her credit card, and suspected Peterson must have taken her card. The investigating officer obtained security video footage from the locations the card was used, and was able to identify Peterson and 42 year old Athena Demetria Rodriguez, also of Hayward, as using the stolen credit card to make the fraudulent transactions. On February 27that about 5:00 PM Peterson and Rodriguez were spotted in the 1100 block of North State Street and contacted by officers. Peterson was on probation in Hayward, and was found to possess over a gram of heroin. Both subjects initially denied using the stolen credit card, and were arrested for burglary and conspiracy. Peterson was additionally charged with forgery, possessing a narcotic, and violating probation. 13-0420

On February 21

stat about 5:30 PM Ukiah Policed stopped a vehicle being driven by 29 year old Corey Cristin Garman, of Ukiah, in the 400 block of Observatory Avenue. Garman’s passenger, 23 year old Francisco Enrique Gonzalez, had a parole warrant for his arrest, and was taken into custody. Garman was seen reaching under her seat, and a search revealed a methamphetamine pipe had been placed there. Garman was arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia, and was found to possess less than a gram of methamphetamine. A second methamphetamine smoking pipe was located inside the vehicle and found to belong to Gonzalez, who was also charged with possessing drug paraphernalia. 13-0428

On February 23

rdat about 10:00 AM Ukiah Police responded to the 300 block of North State Street near Smith Street for a subject sleeping on the sidewalk. Officers found 37 year old Christopher Hanan Pastore, of Santa Cruz, who was intoxicated and had a warrant for his arrest. Pastore was arrested for public intoxication and the warrant. 13-0447

On February 23

rd at about 3:00 PM Ukiah Police responded to the library, at 105 North Main Street, for an intoxicated subject bothering patrons. Officers located 40 year old Nicholas Halvorsen, of Fort Bragg, who was probation in Sonoma County and prohibited from using or possessing alcohol. Halvorsen was intoxicated and found to possess an open bottle of liquor. Halvorsen was arrested for public intoxication and violating probation. 13-0450 Chris Dewey Chief of Police

On February 23

rdat about 11:55 PM a Ukiah Police Officer observed a vehicle parked in the Motel 6 lot, at 1208 South State Street, and saw the lights were on but the vehicle not running, and only a passenger inside the vehicle. The officer contacted the passenger who stated he was here from Stockton, and that the driver was in the office renting a room. The officer noticed a foot in the rear seating area, and found a subject hiding underneath clothing. The subject was identified as 27 year old Pete Redheart Kavanaugh, of Covelo, who was on parole and had a warrant for his arrest. Kavanaugh was taken into custody and was found to possess a methamphetamine smoking pipe. Kavanaugh was arrested for the warrant, for possessing drug paraphernalia, and for violating parole. 13-0452.

On February 25

that about 6:40 PM Ukiah Police responded to the RV Park at 700 East Gobbi Street for a disturbance between father and son. Officers learned 32 year old William Burton Clark, of Oroville, had thrown and scattered items around the RV in anger, and then left. Clark was located bear-by, and found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested. 13-0469

On February 26

that about 3:25 PM Ukiah Police contacted 41 year old Eric Damon Staffer, of McKinleyville, in the 900 block of Waugh Lane. Sauffer displayed symptoms of recent drug use, including puncture sites on his arm, and was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Sauffer was found to possess a hypodermic syringe which contained methamphetamine in liquid form. Stauffer was arrested for possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. 13-0477

On February 26

that about 10:10 PM Ukiah Police responded to the Buddy Eller Center, at 151 Brush Street, for an intoxicated guest who had urinated on the floor. Officers contacted 63 year old Merriell Calvin Faircloth, of Oklahoma, who was very intoxicated and was arrested for public drunkenness. 13-0479

On February 27

th at about 11:05 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Wal Mart lot, at 1155 Airport Park Boulevard, for a female yelling and causing a disturbance. Officers contacted 28 year old Krista Marie Mitchum, of Fort Bragg, who displayed symptoms of recent drug use, and was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested. 13-0481 Chris Dewey Chief of Police

On February 28

that about 1:30 AM Ukiah Police responded to Safeway, at 653 South State Street, for a male subject causing a disturbance in the store and refusing to leave. Officers located 44 year old John Marcus Palacios, of Fort Bragg, in the store yelling and behaving aggressively. Officers learned Palacios had confronted store employees in an aggressive manner, and walked about the store yelling and behaving irrationally and refused to leave the store numerous times. Palacios was arrested for trespassing and transported to the County Jail. 13-0486

On February 27

that about 4:30 PM Ukiah Police responded to Safeway, at 653 South State Street, for a shoplifter who’d stolen a whole chicken. The store re-contacted Ukiah Police as officers were responding and reported the suspect was now in a physical fight outside the store. Responding officers were directed to 23 year old Samuel Sam Sanchez, of Ukiah, who was now seated outside the store eating the chicken, and learned the subject he was fighting with had fled. Sanchez had vomit down the front of his shirt, and was so intoxicated he seemed not to notice the officers as they tried to talk to him. Sanchez then became belligerent and was taken into custody for shoplifting and public intoxication. Sanchez was handcuffed, and he sat down then rolled onto his back and kicked an officer in the chest as the officer attempted to help Sanchez back to a seated position. Sanchez tried several more times to kick the officer and struggled as he was placed into the patrol vehicle. Sanchez remained violent inside the vehicle and thrust himself against the interior, and had to be further restrained before being transported to the County Jail. Sanchez was booked for shoplifting, public intoxication, resisting arrest, and battery on a peace officer. 13-0484

On February 28

that about 4:00AM Ukiah Police responded to the Fairfield Inn, at 1140 Airport Park Boulevard, for a missing person. Officers learned 24 year old Eric Michael Doherty, of San Francisco, was intoxicated and became angry with his co-workers. Doherty had walked away from the hotel at about midnight, leaving his cell phone, and was still missing. Officers learned Doherty had been given a ride to Denney’s several hours prior, and eventually located him at the South Side Store, at 22 Oak Knoll Road, at about 5:05 AM. Doherty was still angry and became belligerent, and was arrested for public intoxication. 13-048
